Second Life has become a noun, it’s become synonymous with virtual worlds. And one of the things that we’ll talk about
today is how we separate what is actually a virtual world, what’s a game, and what’s going to happen next in terms of these
worlds.
Two years ago I gambled the whole company on my belief in virtual worlds. We were looking for something which was
different, and we discovered this product in 2003 called Second Life, which was created by four or five hippy guys over in
California, who had no idea that it would grow to what it is now. They thought that it was going to be educators and schools
going in there, doing fun and groovy things, and creating little worlds. But what we identified is that this was what we had
thought and hoped the internet would be when it was first promised to us 15 years ago.
