JAGUAR 1?-LITRE SALOON
The origins of the Jaguar company lie, as is well known, in the manufacture of motorcycle sidecars at Blackpool during the 1920s and early 1930s. The company was known as Swallow Sidecars and gave rise to the famous ‘SS’ title, which graced the first cars produced by the company from 1931 onwards. Much experience in the motor industry had been gained by offering a large range of attractive bodies on a variety of chassis including Austin, Morris, Swift, Wolseley and Fiat from 1928 onwards. Such was the demand for their coachwork that this was to lead to the production of a complete motorcar, the SS1. This and subsequent SS products were largely based on components supplied by the Standard Motor Company and the venture into sporting cars became stronger during 1935 when the SS990 was introduced. This model was superseded a year later by the legendary SS100 which was destined to become one of the most sought-after sports cars of all time. The Jaguar name first…
