1 Summary
This project is to develop a Linux Kernel Programming course for computer science undergraduate majors and graduate students. It includes teaching a course in UT’s undergraduate curriculum, developing a suitable set of student projects, and compiling the lecture notes and teaching materials into a textbook. The goal is for the class to be repeated easily at UT and adopted in other schools.
This project will benefit the Linux operating system and the Linux community by increasing the number of capable Linux Kernel programmers, which will directly benefit IBM and is one of the goals of the IBM Linux Technology Center. In the long run, the educational methodology developed in this project will help IBM in the area of “Linux Skills Development.”
2 Objectives
This course is designed as a laboratory component in the undergraduate operating system curriculum. Many Computer Science (CS) degree programs include an introductory course on operating system (OS) principles (equivalent to UT’s CS372).
