Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students are expected to:
?Install Microsoft DirectX9.0 and set up the development environment in Microsoft Visual Studio.NET for 3D graphics
and game programming.
?Use the D3DX library and DirectX SDK Documentations and SDK Samples.
?Create Direct3D applications in C++.
?Understand Direct3D initialization. It includes creating an application window, initializing Direct3D objects,
processing system messages, rendering the scene, and releasing Direct3D objects in software program.
?Use vertices and creating vertex buffers to draw and render the basic geometric shapes in a 3D scene. The process
includes defining a custom vertex type, setting up the vertex buffer, rendering and displaying the final scene.
?Set up cameras and viewports in a Microsoft Direct3D program.
?Use D3DX shape drawing functions to draw 3D objects.
?Understand colour and setting materials to 3D objects in DirectX applications.
?Create and use lights in DirectX applications.
?Load and map a texture image onto a surface in the DirectX program.
?Use meshes to load complex 3D objects in the .x file format in DirectX program.
