Adobe Photoshop is an image manipulation and image production software, designed particularly for
working with photo-based images. While you can certainly generate images from scratch in
Photoshop, this software is particularly useful for working with pre-existing digital images or
scanned photo images to alter, enhance or repair them. Today’s Introductory Workshop will focus
on working with pre-existing images.
Getting Started
In order to begin to familiarize ourselves with some of the basic operations of Photoshop we are going to
open a practice image from the Samples that come with the software. First open Photoshop under the Start
menu in the lower left corner of the screen.
Under the pull-down File menu in Photoshop choose Open.
In the dialogue box that pops up, navigate to the Samples folder which is in the Adobe Folder under
Photoshop.
Select an image to experiment with from those listed there. For example: in Photoshop 7,…
