Altered rates: Varying playback speed
Whether you need to match the length of a clip to a
selection of music, or simply want to create an interesting
effect such as slow-motion, it’s easy to change the
rate at which a clip plays back in Adobe?Premiere?Pro.
You can change the speed of a clip by choosing a menu
command or by dragging directly in the timeline. A
clip’s speed correlates inversely with duration:
increasing speed reduces duration; decreasing speed
increases duration. The clip’s In and Out points,
however, remain intact. In other words, if the clip shows
a 10-second countdown, increasing the speed won’t cut
out any of the shot. You’ll still see all 10 numbers-
they’ll just go by in less than 10 seconds.
Note that a speed change applies to the entire clip. If you
want to affect only part of a clip, split the clip and apply
the speed change to one part only. If you want the speed
to change over the course of the clip-making its
playback accelerate or decelerate-you’ll need to use a
