1 Quick start
This page provides a simple step-by-step overview of the dialup configuration process. (The rest
of the packet is a more detailed explanation with screen shots.)
1. Go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Communications -> Network and Dial-up
Connections.
2. Click on Make New Connection. This produces the New Connection Wizard.
Click Next.
3. Select Dial-up to the Internet.
Click Next.
4. Select I want to set up my connection manually, or I want to connect through a localarea
network (LAN).
Click Next.
5. Select I connect through a phone line and a modem.
Click Next.
6. (If you are asked to select a modem:) Select your modem from the list of installed
modems.
Click Next.
7. Enter 217 in the area code field.
If you’re using UIUCnet Premier, enter 239-7252.
If you’re using UIUCnet Dialup, enter 333-3700.
Select Use area code and dialing rules.
Click Next.
8. Enter your Network ID in the User Name field.
