Windows XP Instructions
These instructions cover the connection of a Windows XP PC or laptop to:
the campus network docking points in the Library
the Residential ethernet network.
Before you start.
Please note: You must have an up-to-date virus checker installed on your PC at all times. You are entitled to use
Sophos Anti-Virus whilst you are a member of the University. Installation instructions may be found in Step 3 below.
Please make sure you know the username and password (if set) of your account on the computer, and of the
Administration account if this is separate. If you don’t then following these instructions may make you unable to use
your computer. If in doubt, ask the Help Desk for advice.
In Windows XP many system changes require that you be logged into an account with Administrator privileges. In
Windows XP Home this is called the Owner account, in Windows XP Professional the Administrator account.
