Security Settings for Running Serendipity Systems’ Software
on Windows XP

Introduction
Some users of Serendipity Systems’ software have encountered a system error message, “Error
0203: Error in Saving Message!”. Following this error the SSI software reverts to running in demo
mode. This error occurs when the user does not have the necessary permissions for running the
software on Windows XP.
Serendipity Systems’ software requires a user to be a member of the Power Users, or
Administrators, group in order to have sufficient permissions to operate in Windows 2000 or
Windows XP. This application note provides step-by-step instructions for making a user a
member of the Power Users group in Windows XP.
Background
Beginning with Windows 2000, there are three fundamental levels of security granted to users.
These are granted to end users through membership in the Users, Power Users, or
