Once you sit at a Mac, it will tell you to log in (as your net ID and password). Once
you log in, you should get this screen:
The programs and folders are on the bottom. This bottom area is called the Dock. If
it’s not shown, it’s hidden. Go to the bottom of the screen, and it should show up. You
can go to Apple-> Dock -> Turning Hiding off so it doesn’t hide.
Then there are the folders, which include the audio, graphics, video, and other
folders as well. For example, here is the Animation folder:The programs are here, like Maya and Flash. There are other folders on the left side of
the window (Documents, Applications, Animation, Audio Applications, etc.) So what
are the red, yellow, and green circles on the upper left side of the window? The red
circle is used to close the window. The yellow is minimize, and the green is
maximize.
When you want to quit out of an application, you should go to file-quit, rather
than use the red circle. The red circle will close out of the window, but the quit
command will close the program. If you just close the window, the program will still
be there and you’ll see it in the dock along with the other programs.
When you want to throw a document away, you have a couple of options. You
can hold the ctrl key, then click on the document (or right click on it). A menu should
pop up, and you should have the option of sending it to the trash. Another way is to
drag it to the trash icon in the dock.
