Abstract
This paper demonstrates the effectiveness of
combining Asynchronous Javascript and XML
(AJAX) and the Representational State Transfer
(REST) architectural style with the Web
Service Resource Framework (WSRF) standard.
Accessing WS-Resources (according to WSRF)
in a manner compatible with the REST principles,
using a Web browser, makes it possible to
provide a light-weight, portable client for interacting
with scientific simulations in distributed
computing environments, with similar functionality
to pre-existing platform-specific clients that
required a full installation procedure. This paper
describes this client and emphasises which
standards and principles of distributed computing
have played a key role in putting this application
together.
1 Introduction
This paper demonstrates the effectiveness of
combining AJAX and REST with WSRF by
looking at their use within the RealityGrid1
project. RealityGrid facilitates the study of complex
condensed-matter systems…
