Sooner Connect VPN Troubleshooting Guide
The goal of this guide is to help users pinpoint and correct many technical problems that they may be experiencing with the Sooner Connect VPN service through Cox Communications. This guide also contains the proper contact information for any connectivity issues that would hinder users from connecting to the VPN services.
There are several pieces of equipment that must work together in order for the VPN service to work properly. These pieces are split into four basic segments shown in fig. 1.1, which include the Customer Equipment, Cox Communications Network, OUHSC Network, and the Internet.

IBM Compatible PC
At least 30 megabytes of free disk space
64 megabytes of RAM 128 recommended
10 mps Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC)
Microsoft Windows 95/98 or NT 4.0 workstation
Internet Explorer 4.0 or greater
When troubleshooting problems on a network it is best to start the process from one end point and work your way to the other end point. In this case we will start at your computer and troubleshoot toward the OUHSC network. Follow these steps to resolve the connectivity issues that you are experiencing.
1. Make sure that your system meets or exceeds the minimum hardware/software requirements.
2. Verify that the network interface card is installed correctly on the computer.
3. Check the connection between the network card and the cable modem.
4. The cable modem should be powered up and you should see an array of lights on the front panel.
5. There should also be a coaxial cable plugged into the back of the cable modem
