Setting up your Cisco Systems VPN 3000 Client
Please make note of the security requirements before installing the VPN software:
1. An up-to-date antivirus product must be installed on your computer. The antivirus product can help protect your computer from viruses and Trojan horses. OUHSC provides free antivirus software and updates at:
http://www.ouhsc.edu/it/virus_scan/
2. Turn your computer OFF when not in use. Because cable modem devices are “always on”, have a permanent address, and are connected to the Internet, they are more susceptible to hacking. If your home computer is compromised and then connects to the University network as a trusted host, then the University systems can be compromised.
Personal firewall software or a hardware device may be used as further protection against security risks. At this time only Black Ice Defender (http://www.networkice.com/products/soho_solutions.html) and Zone Alarm (http://www.zonealarm.com/) are certified by Cisco for use with the VPN client.
