COMPRESSING HTML DOCUMENTS
Even HTML files can be large and cumbersome; that’s why compressing them allows you to keep
your files grouped together and decreases the overall size of the files. Before using WebCT for
your online courses, you must have either WinZip. for PCs or StuffIt. for Macs on your
computer. Once you “zip” or “stuff” your HTML files, you can upload them into WebCT and
uncompress them.
If you don’t have WinZip or StuffIt on your computer already, you can download free evaluation
versions of the software on the Internet. To download WinZip, go to
http://www.winzip.com/ddchomea.htm. WebCT only recognizes WinZip files, so StuffIt offers a
WinZip-compatible version called DropZip. To download a 15-day trial version of StuffIt Lite
(which includes DropZip), go to http://www.stuffit.com/stuffit/lite/index.html. Just remember: you’ll
need this software to upload your files to WebCT, so expect to pay from $20 to $50 to purchase
one of these products.
Whether you’re using WinZip or DropZip, it’s important to remember that when you upload
