MicroStation Tips & Information:
Using the Windows Clipboard in MicroStation.
Clipboard ShortCut Keys
Accelerator Key Menu Item Description
Ctrl + X Edit > Cut Places the current selection set onto the system clipboard
Ctrl + C Edit > Copy Copies the current selection set onto the system clipboard
Ctrl + V Edit > Paste Pastes the contents of the clipboard into the file
The Clipboard can be used to copy/edit text and to copy elements within the same file and
amongst several files.
If all or a portion of a note needs to be copied and inserted into another note, select the desired
text in the text editor window and type Control-C to copy the text to the Clipboard. Now select
the second note for editing and paste the Clipboard’s text in the desired location by typing
Control-V.2
If elements need to be copied into another file, highlight them with Element Selection or
PowerSelector and click the Copy icon in the Primary Tools Tool Box. Open the other file
and click the Paste icon in the Primary Tools Tool Box to place the elements. The elements’
attributes will be preserved, but the active scale and active angle will affect them so set AA=0
and AS=1. This avoids having to reference files just to copy a few items.
Occasionally, after editing some text or modifying an element you realize that you wished you
edited/modified a copy instead of the original. Just clicking Undo would eliminate your recent
efforts, which is not desired. Instead, first highlight the newly changed items with Element
Selection or PowerSelector and click the Copy icon in the Primary Tools Tool Box. This
places them on the Clipboard. Now click Undo to step back to the point before the changing
occurred. After verifying AA=0 and AS=1, click the Paste icon in the Primary Tools Tool Box
to place the modified version of the elements. Now the original and modified versions are in the
file.
