These are controlled by the wheel, though
you use it as a left/right direction button,
with Play and Pause at the centre. Volume
is controlled by side keys, and there’s a
hold key so you can put the player in
your pocket.
Music playback quality is good,
although you are restricted to
the supplied headphones with a
proprietary connector (this is
also where you plug in the
charger) or to Bluetooth wireless
headphones with the phone’s A2DP, i.e
stereo Bluetooth. Annoyingly, if you decide
you want to listen to another track, you
can’t listen to the current song while you
search - pressing the Next Track button
kills that song and moves you on
automatically.
Transferring music to the phone is
refreshingly straightforward. Connect the
handset to your computer via the USB
cable, and then choose from Samsung PC
Studio or Media Transfer options. The first
will take you to Windows Media Player so
you can synchronise the phone with music
on your PC, while the second option lets you
transfer tracks by dragging and dropping.
With Media Transfer the tracks end up in
My Files, meaning you don’t get the phone’s
