This is the first of several articles on how to build Ajax applications using the Echo2
framework and the Eclipse IDE. Over the course of these tutorials you will learn how to
build applications with drag-and-drop support, command completion, on-the-fly server
validation, asynchronous updates and all that good stuff. But first we have to put together
our development environment. This consists of a Windows 2000 or Windows XP development
machine and the following software:
? The Eclipse 3.1 IDE
? Tomcat 5.5.x
? JDK 1.5
? The Eclipse WST (Web Standard Tools) plugin
? The Echo2 application framework
? The EchopointNG library of components
The JDK 1.5.x is available from http://java.sun.com
Downloading Eclipse 3.1
Eclipse 3.1.x can be downloaded from http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/. Make sure to
get the latest version, 3.1 or better. Install it on your computer.
Installing the WST Plugin
Once you’ve installed Eclipse, we can install the WST plugin. This plugin will simplify
developing multi-tier web applications. From the menu, select “Help->Software Updates-
>Find and Install…”, then on the dialog, make sure the “Search…
