NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, ONT. - A family of Japanese tourists who took to the roads around
Niagara-on-the-Lake last week weren’t just here for the icewine and peaches, but rather as the
advance guard of what Suzuki Canada Inc. hopes will be a major wave of immigration.
In fact, Suzuki is looking to the multi-talented newcomers it introduced to auto journalists in the
popular summertime destination to help boost its on-the-road population significantly before the
end of the decade.
The name of this new model clan is SX4 and it’s the latest in what amounts to a flood of novel
small cars entering a Canadian market increasingly focused on vehicles that sip, rather than gulp,
gas.
But Suzuki figures the 2007 SX4’s versatile crossover style, and available all-wheel-drive system,
will give it the ability to straddle the sub-compact/compact car divide and maybe even lure a few
compact SUV intenders.
