2000 HYUNDAI ACCENT GSi
The brand-new Accent is a longer, wider vehicle that has been considerably improved. It is
available as a two-door hatchback and four-door sedan.
Interior and trunk
The very comfortable front seats are easy to enter and exit. The driver’s seat has adjustments for
the cushion and lumbar support. A tilt steering column contributes to the very good driving
position.
Both front seats move forward to facilitate access to the rear. It’s a nice feature normally only
found on the passenger side, and one we’d appreciate more if the seat backs had a memory
function to return them to their original position. The rear bench has a short cushion and
relatively upright seat back, and head room is tight for average to tall people.
The roomy trunk has low liftover, a flat floor and a big opening. Folding the 60/40 split seat back
expands the cargo area. We noted that when the mercury dipped below minus 5 C, the cylinders
had trouble holding the hatch wide open.
Safety and convenience
Quiet except in moderate to heavy acceleration, the interior is well finished with some nice
