Glad you asked. 3G is the next generation cellular network. When you hear 3G people are usually talking about phones, but - if you’re in the know - you can do a bit more. 3G is very fast. In selected locations a special type of 3G (HSDPA) can get you bursts of 7.2 Mbps. That’s quite enough to power a laptop browsing experience, and this Asus laptop comes with 3G connectivity built in. Don’t want to change your laptop? You can just get the Huawei E220 modem for Rs 20,000 and blaze away. Data packages start at Rs 50/Month for 5 MB or Rs 1,000/Month for 1GB. It’s the future today, if you’re in the know.
What Is WiMAX?
WiMax can deliver Internet as far as 50 kilometers, right to your home. As you can see in the diagram here, the signal goes straight from a tower to your home. Once it’s in your home you can connect your computer via Ethernet or WiFi. While you can theoretically connect to WiMax direct from your computer, it is much more reliable to attach a special modem to your house.
What Is WiFi?
WiFi can deliver Internet as far as 100 meters, right to your computer. WiFi is currently available at all the locations at right. Just open your laptop, follow the steps below and browse away. What equipment do you need? A normal laptop will do, almost 100% of new ones come with WiFi enabled. Many phones and cameras also come with WiFi today, like the Nokia N80, E61, N95 and Sony Ericcson P1. How do you connect?
