Using NetBackup For SAP To Protect SAP DB/MaxDBShort Description
Backint For Oracle (NetBackup For SAP is implementation of Backint For Oracle. In the rest of the document we will refer to it as NetBackup for SAP) can be used to backup SAP DB/MaxDB RDBMS. SAP requires that applications must be able to backup up any files in the file system, regardless of the existence of Oracle on that file system. External backup tools that fulfil this condition can be used to backup and restore SAP DB/MaxDB, and VERITAS NetBackup for SAP fulfils this condition.

SAP DB/MaxDB relies on an additional adapter program to communicate with NetBackup for SAP. The adapter program is part of SAP DB/MaxDB distribution. File path for the adapter program executable is:
/depend/bin/backint or
dependinackint.exe
Note: For the rest of this document, when we refer to the adapter program we mean backint executable that is distributed with SAP DB/MaxDB.
This program necessitates some additional configuration for SAP DB/MaxDB backups. Follow the regular NetBackup for SAP directions in the Configuration chapter to create a policy for SAP DB/MaxDB backups. This section provides the configuration that is additional to the configuration for regular NetBackup for SAP backup. To use NetBackup for SAP to back up SAP DB/MaxDB, you must perform the following extra configuration steps:
