The Canon EOS-1D Mark II N Short Review
Short Description
Camera manufacturers frequently build a camera model to fit a wide variety of uses at different levels of quality. Professional level cameras usually have stronger bodies, faster processors, and bigger and better sensors. The Canon EOS-1D Mark II N is designed to withstand rugged use and meet very specialized speed requirements of the photojournalist, or for that matter, anyone needing near-immediate exposure response. The camera doesn’t use a full-frame sensor, but the Mark II N has a large 8.2-megapixel sensor, measuring 28.7 × 19.1 mm. The lens magnification ratio is only 1.3×. Street price (body only) is about $3,600.

What you first notice when using the Mark II N is the shutter response. The entire exposure operation, from mirror displacement through the firing sequence is noticeably faster than any other DSLR I’ve worked with. The Mark II N is designed to meet the needs of photographers shooting news, sports, weddings, or anything that necessitates a camera that is immediately responsive and capable of a burst rate of continuous exposures. It shoots up to 8.5 frames per second and has extremely fast autofocus and focus tracking—absolute musts for photojournalists. The burst rate capabilities are rated at a staggering 48 full-resolution JPEGS or 22 RAW images.Start-up time from off to full operation is 0.2 seconds. Shutter lag time between partial depression and exposure is only 55 ns. The camera is ready when you are.
