CAR PRICE GUIDE 3RD JANUARY 2008
Short Description
ISO 14001 certifies a plant’s approach to environmental progress. Since 1996, Renault has reduced its energy consumption by 25%, its water consumption by 57%, waste by 65%, volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions by 38%, and water-borne toxic discharge by 44%.
In 2006, 39 industrial sites, covering over 90% of Renault operations worldwide, were certified to ISO 14001. The certification process is underway for the remaining 10%, just recently acquired by Renault in Russia and Morocco.

A low CO2 emission level is important because CO2 (carbon dioxide) is the main greenhouse gas responsible for global warming. A large number of vehicles in Renault’s eco2 range emit less than 120 g/km of CO2, qualifying them for UK Road Tax Band B. Many more vehicles meet the eco2 emissions criteria of 140 g/km. Biofuel-capable vehicles also contribute to bringing down overall CO2 emissions, because the crops grown for making biofuels absorb CO2 from the atmosphere by photosynthesis as they are growing. Using ethanol as a fuel can reduce emissions by up to 70%.

Like all Renault vehicles, a Renault eco2 vehicle is designed so that 95% of its materials (by weight) will be reusable in one form or another. In addition, at least 5% of vehicle plastics on new eco2 vehicles are made from recycled materials. Clio contains close to 20kg (10%) of recycled plastics, and Mégane 13kg (9%). The proportion will be even higher on forthcoming Renault vehicles, the target being 50kg by 2015.
