A Comparison of Visual
Basic .NET and C#
A NUMBER OF LANGUAGES work with the .NET Framework. Microsoft is releasing the
following four languages with its Visual Studio .NET product: C#, Visual Basic
.NET, JScript.NET, and Managed C++. The languages likely to be the most popular
are Visual Basic .NET (which I discuss in this book) and C#. C# (which you pronounce
C Sharp) is the language that Microsoft is using for all its own internal
development for .NET, so a comparison of C# and Visual Basic .NET is in order. In
this appendix, I cover the similarities and differences between C# and Visual Basic
.NET. If you want to go over the different concepts in Visual Basic .NET before
reading about C#, look at Chapter 2, which is the roadmap for this appendix.
Although by no means an exhaustive list of the differences between C# and
Visual Basic .NET, this appendix should give you a good start if you have any interest
