Why you want to buy a DSLR.
You’re looking for a DSLR, you think you want one, everyone seems to have one, you’re frustrated by the lack of responsiveness of your digital point and shoot camera. You think your pictures could be better and you feel that you’re limited by your camera. You used to use a film SLR years ago, but DSLRs have been out of your price range. You like taking pictures of your kids. You like expressing your creativity. You like the convenience and parsimony of digital photography. You don’t necessarily want to spend $1500 on a camera.

If you fit into some of the criteria above, keep on reading. But first be warned. People take great pictures; a camera is just a tool. Buying a great camera doesn’t make you into a great photographer. However, in the last few years great strides have been made in digital technology that have made picture-taking easier and more foolproof than ever. You can’t get around the basics though. Whether it’s film or a digital sensor, you need good optics, in focus with the right exposure to make a good shot. The subject matter, right moment and composition are of course up to you. Autofocus, sophisticated metering systems, modern computer-design optics and faster circuitry are what you’re paying for in the DSLR.
