Location information and mashups with mobile web server
Short Description
The mobile web server based on open source Apache implementation is available for mobile handsets with Symbian operating system. We have demonstrated applications using the mobile web server with python scripts to implement user location service. In the user interface we “mashup” the location information from the mobile server with Google Maps. This paper describes the system architecture and our experiences from using it. The project homepage http://raccoon.openlaboratory.net/RaccoonOnMap provides view to the location information and makes the application available free of charge.

An introduction to mashups for health librarians
Short Description
This paper discusses mashups, medical mashups for health librarians, specifically. Mashups bring together two or more Web applications to produce a completely new infor- mation service. Put another way, a mashup is a hybrid that takes two information sources and merges them to create a third, more useful tool. A good example of a widely used mashup is Google Maps (http://www.google.com/apis/ maps), which combines Google Earth data with telephone directory information to create a useful satellite road map.

Mashup Mania with Google Maps
Short Description
A number of new geospatial viewing tools from major players in the Internet industry have recently appeared on the scene and are taking the geospatial world by storm. Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, and Amazon have all released web-based mapping tools in the recent past, and collectively these new players to the industry have raised the bar for Internet mapping. Although their functional capabilities don’t provide anything we haven’t seen in web offerings from traditional GIS vendors, their emergence has been significant in that they have managed to capture a wider audience. Google, in particular, has emerged as the leader of this pack with it’s recently released Google Maps product which provides a slick, highly responsive visual interface built using AJAX technologies along with detailed street and aerial imagery data, and an open API allowing customization of the map output including the ability to add application specific data to the map.

From Coffee to Celebrity Sightings How Mashups are Changing Online Mapping
Short Description
Mix an online mapping application with other useful information such as ratings or events and what do you get? One of the hottest new trends in bringing the online and real worlds closer together – mapping mashups.
Mash what? If you aren’t familiar with a mashup, it is a website or application that combines content from more than one source and displays that information in a new way. The term actually originates from the music industry where DJs would blend vocals from one song and music from another to create a new, better song. However, the mashups we’ll reveal in this white paper have little to do with music and more to do with the amazing potential of mashups created by merging websites and data with popular online mapping applications, such as Google Maps.
