Nokia 9210 Communicator RSA SecurID Ready Implementation Guide

Nokia 9210 Communicator RSA SecurID Ready Implementation GuideShort Description
The Nokia 9210 Communicator supports two-factor authentication for Internet browsing and e-mail, and secures access to mobile information services created for WAP-enabled phones. RSA SecurID two-factor authentication ensures only authorized users are allowed entry to your information. Each user is issued RSA SecurID authentication software which generates a new, unique and unpredictable code, every 60 seconds. When logging on to the network, the user enters the PIN to generate a unique PASSCODE that authenticates the user before allowing access to protected information. RSA SecurID authentication software can also serve as a stand-alone software token supporting two-factor authentication to more than 200 products from leading vendors certified to use the RSA SecurID technology.

BMW Financial Services VB6-to-C# Migration Case Study

BMW Financial Services VB6-to-C# Migration Case StudyShort Description
In the past, Visual Basic (VB) upgrades were fairly painless and inexpensive because Microsoft made new versions of VB backward compatible, but things are different this time. An upgrade to .NET brings with it a radical shift in terms of architecture, design, deployment, features, and tools. The upgrade will be even more challenging if you decide to move from the forgiving VB compiler to the rigorous C# compiler. Confronted with declining vendor and community support and major migration challenges, BMW Financial Services in Dublin, Ohio set out to define a strategy that would allow us to adopt C# in an efficient and deliberate manner. Our objectives were to minimize disruption and costs and leverage the momentum of the platform change to move our capabilities forward. This article presents our strategy and some of the experiences we are encountering along the way.

Ars Technica Guide to Virtualization Part I

Ars Technica Guide to Virtualization Part IShort Description
In 2003, Intel announced that they were working on a technology called “Vanderpool” that was aimed at providing hardware-level support for a something called “virtualization.” With that announcement, the decades-old concept of virtualization had officially arrived on the technology press radar. But in spite of its long history in computing, as a new buzzword “virtualization” at first smelled ominously similar to terms like “trusted computing” and “convergence.” In other words, many folks had a vague notion of what virtualization was, and it from what they could tell it sounded like a decent enough idea, but you got the impression that nobody outside of a few vendors and CIO types was really too excited.

Hardware virtualization support for Afterburner/L4

Hardware virtualization support for Afterburner/L4Short Description
Full virtualization of the IA32 architecture can be achieved using hardware support. The L4 microkernel has been extended with mechanisms to leverage Intel’s VT-x technology. This work proposes a user level virtual machine monitor that complements L4’s virtualization extensions and realizes microkernel-based full virtualization of arbitrary operating systems. A prototype implementation within the Afterburner framework demonstrates the approach by successfully booting a current Linux kernel.
